500 blog post a new year and new goals and a Happy New Year to you all

This is going to be a fairly long post.  First because it is my 500th but I also have a lot I want to get in.  First the photo above is to remind me to spend time with all my fur kids lot of time as they get older.  These are my old babies about 12 now.
These are my new friends I love them already but most important to me is not that it is doing something good giving them a home with love and kindness and no worry they won't have food or love  or a warm place to play and snuggle.  They are for me heralds of the new year and time passing.
I am working on my art and expanding and growing it.  The coming year will be about finding a better way to secure the empire and make it something solid.
Then there is this Old Chubby  Dog who I miss with all my heart most days.  She reminds me to love and live every moment.  She did and I will try and follow her example.
I remember when I made my little art shop the big thing everyone was on about was make a blog make a blog.  So I did and by god I was found by Regretsy and April Winchell via this.  Which helped me build my base.  It amazes me to think 500 times I have shared my little life and that over the years it has gotten some 16 or 17 thousand views and people reading it.  Granted that is a tiny drop in the bucket but for me it is a lot and makes me proud to share my life with you guys.
Thanks for reading, responding or just looking at pretty pictures.

Some days you just need to paint a turd

I offer the above paintings as proof of that.  In my world I am always striving to make something new and creative and not just fall back on things I have done before.  So I use new colors try new techniques and try mixing things up.
The trick I find is not to take it personal it is a craft a skill just because you made it does not make it beautiful.  If it comes out ass ugly as the two above did that is ok it lets you see what you need to work on.
These were an effort to just get my juices flowing I went in with no set idea of what I was painting in my brain.  You can tell because they both look hobbled together.
So this is my thing some days you just need to paint a turd and be ok with it.  Take it as prep work for a better creative effort in the future.
Well I just thought I would share and I hope my terrible paintings made you laugh and maybe take things a bit less serious today.

We adopted a couple of senior friends

I wanted to share part of why it has been so quiet is we are all settling in together over here.  Senior dogs often have a hard time finding a home.  Now I will say it is not perfect.  There is a little tension with the cats but as we had a dog who passed away that is quickly fading.  But they are good dogs who already know about potty training have basic manners and really needed a home.  Since they have been here our house is lit up with the warmth and happy of having them and them realizing this is home and home is warm and cozy. So if you are considering a dog get whatever you feel is right but please consider a senior too they are loving and kind dogs who really appreciate being home and come without the stress that comes with a puppy in many cases as they are already trained for a lot of things.  Hope you like the photos.

A few of my favorite things

This is just a little peek into our current decorating.  We have the owl ornament made from a finger puppet that a lovely friend sent me.  And in the background you can spot my dog ornaments.
This is my village with train wreck victims and a dragon all watched over by a giant three headed santa.
Then you have the anatomically correct Elf showing his junk to an angel while having a beer.
And a happy holidays to you too.

Busting into the holidays like the Koolaid man

Well the Thanksgiving went off plan I got sick but the good news is I am about it over it and seeing as how we don't sweat the small stuff around here we still had fun.  However this is one of those short holiday seasons so I am preparing to bust in on the holidays like the koolaid man through the wall.  This is one of my most exciting finds to date.  I have a terrible holiday village and I like to add to it every so often.  I found this treasure at the thrift store for 2 bucks it lights up and plays songs.  I am sure by Christmas someone will stab me for pushing the button.
This is one of the last things I did before I got sick and I thought I would just share it.  Hope you all had a great break and would love to hear your holiday plans.

Happy Thanksgiving to all

So I want to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving.  I do not know how you celebrate but I know how I do.  Myself I am not real big on the whole pilgrims side of things because well we pretty much destroyed an entire people and their way of life.
I am however a fan of taking what you can get and having a day off to really soak up the love of family and treat ourselves this time of year when it gets cold and the days are shorter is how I see it.  This is my time to remind myself how very lucky we are to have a roof, money for food and medicines, a family of humans and pets that love us.  That is what my Thanksgiving is and I hope you are all going to enjoy the same thing.  Now off to finish my pecan pie.

Got to do something good

So yesterday we the husband and myself drove this car full of stuff over to one of our local animal places.  It was a dozen pet beds I made with the great help of some friends who sent me flannels to make some of those beds.  Then the dog stuff that is all from my sweet girl who passed away a couple of weeks ago.  It is the things she had that she could not use anymore so we thought should be put to use helping other dogs that are still here.  Suffice it to say it was a bitter sweet trip doing good but missing my girl.
Now just pulling up at the place you cannot help but smile it is nestled away in the woods and the minute you open the door you hear barking.
This is the Granite City Animal Protection Agency.  They are no kill and while they are filled to the gills with dogs the place is well kept and clearly so are the animals.  I know this because I went in and said just to see when I might be ready I would like to meet some of their dogs while we were there.
So when I asked they said sure come on in.  The young tiny woman who was working asked me what kind of dog I was looking for and started to lead me to the pups.  I said oh I am looking for an adult or maybe a senior who is good with cats and kids.
Her eyes lit up and she introduced me to Peanut and Nikki.  Peanut is 12 and Nikki is 5 I think.  They were given up when their senior parent found it to hard to take care of them.  Peanut walked right up to me like we were best buds.  He clearly thought hey lets go home I am not supposed to be here.  So I spent some time with him and Nikki who was just adorable as well .
Now I left them there because I don't want to make a rash decision and get a dog that might not be a good fit for us just because it reminds me of my old dog that passed and the shelter is a no kill but I will tell you this I am damn well thinking about it.

Bowl of phlegm in a tutu

So This has been a good few days.  Things are going good working and sticking to goals.  Then yesterday I got featured on a baby blog in France.  It was great.  They thought I was a little nutty but then comments translated were just a riot.  One lady compared my work to a bowl of phlegm in a tutu.  That shit is getting turned into a painting because it made me laugh.  So thank you random French lady for your inspiration.  Here is a link if you would like to read.
Talk to you soon

Wizards wizzing and little mobile homes planning a weekend off.

So with a long shitty week behind us I am intending on spending a good deal of time with this guy.  There is going to be a metric shit ton of petting.  This is part of my plan.
Step two is a more serious version of this where we plan out what we want to do with decorations this year as we think we might make it a touch brighter out there this year.  I am going to go to a couple of art things and sew my ass off.  Well that would take a lot of sewing but yep lots of plans for fun things.
Been adding things to the shop some not holiday related like this wizard taking a piss.
And this little bitty mobile home charm.
What do you have planned for the weekend.

Suck week but doing better

First the suck my old beautiful sweetheart dog passed away this week.  She was 16 and loved and adored.  Her life was filled with warm snuggles, treats and play.  But this last week she very quickly went down hill so we had to put her to sleep to keep her from a very cruel prolonged death.  Of course my heart is broken and I will never forget my Old Chubby Dog but I am trying to get back into work because laying on the couch sobbing and holding her blanket is not really helpful to the healing process after three days.  So good bye to my sweet girl.

Now this is a much more cheerful and comical thing.  I have made three of these total two were custom works this is my last most likely for the season genital Nativity.  I laugh when I see it and I do happen to believe in God but my God has a sense of humor so I think it might make God laugh to.   If you would like to see this in the shop it is here.
I will write more soon just still trying to get my spirits up.

Crazy cat ladies, Creepy Clowns and Giant tampon dolls it has been a full week

So this is the time of year I fill the shop up with extra weird things and hope for lots of folks to find some absurd or pretty treasure to get a loved one.  I also enjoy that I get to make whatever the hell I want.  See the crazy cat lady above I love making them and when I get old that is my goal hell actually I am that right now except with hair dye and less pants suits and pearls.
The big creepy clown was inspired by using bits of fabric and paper like the tickets in a new way.  He is why I think of when I think clowns.
These are just absurd because I love absurd and why not make more.  In a few days I will show you some projects I am doing just for me.
Hope these gave you all a good laugh

All ready for Halloween

So the other day I went out and about and took some photos on the way my town has many faults but we have many great things too.  We get really into Fall.  The above picture is a business in my town that has been putting the cut outs in the windows since I was in grade school.  I love them and always look up to see them so this time I nabbed a photo.
This is one of the pretty homes on my street with some cute little pumpkins out.  Well I intend to spend this weekend scaring the crap out of myself with creepy movies and listening for bumps in the night you all have a good weekend too.

Always a season a head

So as a crafter with a business you learn very early that you need to create a holiday day or two a head or by the time you have your things ready you don't have them for the holiday.  So here are a couple of things I am working on for myself.  The fabrics above are for a holiday quilt for myself.  I love nothing more than nestling under a warm blanket and watching it snow.
This second photo is from a miniature diorama work I am trying to make happen.  I love little mobile homes and thought how cute a little winter scene would be.  Now I am thinking of doing a holiday card with this image as well.
So pretty much this is me saying I am enjoying myself and asking what is shaking with you.

Rainy days and snow time dreaming

Well it was a good weekend we finished painting and did some projects but I have found myself in a very reflective mood.  Torn between creating everything under the sun and looking over old photo albums.
I am going with the creating and keeping moving because I think it is better for me.  We have a lovely wet rainy day here today but I am thinking of snow and frost on windows and hush of a snow filled world.
And then I bring you this goofy bastard because it makes me smile and I think making others smile and laugh is pretty damn important too.

Getting Ready for Halloween and enjoy the spooky sesaon

Made these pumpkins with the husband.  I love creepy crafts and these guys look cute but we ended up having to pitch them they did not dry out enough.  Still how freaking cute are they.
This little guy is hanging out in my shop and creeping up everything.  I love the fall and Halloween off to scare myself with a horror movie.

Making bread and drunk geese

So this week I have been working a good deal on expanding the empire.  My goal is to spread the creating and the business to two or three more places I like.  I realized as I try to expand that it seems to creep into every facet of my life.  That would be around the time I found myself taking pictures of oil in yeast water.  Myself I am going to embrace that and I hope it grows.

This is just funny and I hope it makes you laugh.

Mini Apple pie dumplings

So some of my friends asked about getting this recipe so here ya go.
What you will need: 1 stick butter
                                  1&1/4th cup white sugar
                                  1/3rd cup brown sugar
                                  1tsp vanilla
                                  1tbs cinnamon
                                  2 12ct muffin pans
                                  3&1/2  cups flour
1dz large apples or 18 smaller ones
                                   1 egg
Preheat stove to 350 degrees.
Peel apples and chop
Mix in 1/2 cup of flour
1tbs cinnamon
1tsp vanilla
1&1/4th cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4th cup of butter chopped into tiny squares
Put in fridge while you make crust

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
The crust is simple.
3/4th cup of softened a little melted butter
2&3/4th cup flour
2/3rd cup of cold water mix till thick.
Does not need to stand

Roll out a little thinner than standard pie crust using flour as needed on rolling space and pin.
Use a good sized mug to cut out circles loosely tuck one into each muffin shape.
Then fill each one heaping full with filling.
Then use the rest of the dough to cut more shapes.  If you are short just cut strips if you have plenty cut more circles and you can seal the mini pies.
Once the tops are on brush pies with egg white 1 egg does them all.
Sprinkle with white sugar and cinnamon.
Bake on a baking sheet for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.  Once cool use a butter knife if need be but pop them out and they should be solid.
Enjoy :)

Making your own little world

This post is a happy post.  Life is good right now tons of work happy family and I feel a recent renewal in my creative activities.  The photo above is from my alter ego shop I call her Edna Minet.  I used that photo because it was like creating my own little world.
In this life for me at least it is easy to forget just how simple it is to build your own little worlds.  Sure you need to go out and meet folks who don't live in those worlds but in my view they are great fun and should be embraced as a way to live out whatever runs around in our brains.  So with that in mind I am making our office/art supply storage/dining room into my perfect little world today.
Wish me luck.

It has been a real hard week but great for being an artist

So this week these people found my shop.  I have an item called Vagina Dentata  and it seems they took umbrage with my support of every woman having the right to choose for herself.  It can be found in the article above with the puppy because clearly they did not understand my first image was not mature in any way.
Well when they found that item the response was to suggest I am stupid because I have run on sentences.  Forget the fact that the writer herself has maybe the dullest lackluster style I have seen in many unfavorable reviews.  Of course this was not a real review this was more of a school girl gathering in which they call people at midnight and ask them if their refrigerator is running.   Here are a few of my favorite commentaries.

Now Beverly wants us all to know her items are aesthetically pleasing.  So a quick search for Beverly revealed this.
So clearly she thinks it is OK to make aborted mermaid drag queens who have wiped their butts with their hand.  If you would like to see more late term aborted mermares or as another friend called it Scariel's here ya go.
Mean while over on the no matter what push out that babby board these folks also had some important things to say.
Patty wants us all to know that hey if you make a art work about your political and ethical beliefs keep your fucking hands off the cute stuff no purple seal for you bitches.
Oh I would show you more from this part but it is all half assed bible verses because you know we all live by the same code.  Here is a link if you would like to check that out.
Then the final one my favorite is the argument known world wide as the I have no argument reference.  That is right folks you guessed it.  We are Nazi's.
Now I also want to point out some really great friends and customers who saw this because I thought their outrage was hilarious and posted it on my own pages stood up for me and the other artist and most important the idea of the right to choose.  To those folks I am very grateful.
Now just to be clear on a couple of things.  I am not pro abortion or pro death I am pro every woman making up her own mind what grows in her body and when and if she wants to terminate that it staying her option to select.
There were all kinds of allegations on that page that we all must be trying to relieve guilt for abortions we had and various other assumptions.  I almost want to explain myself but nope I sure won't because it is not one bit their business.
They can frankly go and get bent.  Any time your argument has to come down to name calling and pretty much slander you don't have a real argument.  Thanks to them I now have additional sales and notice and will be donating a small part of my profits in the last few days to a Pro choice or planned parenthood I have not decided which one yet.
So just like Beverly I feel very inspired to make all kinds of art and who knows maybe some of mine will actually be aesthetically pleasing promoting a women's right to choose.
